A lot of non-christian people look at Christianity as a religion, which is pretty far off from what it is. Christianity is about having a relationship with Christ. Christians literal meaning is little Christ. There's a christian band named War of Ages who have a song and in the beginning of it it says "The number one cause of atheism in the world is Christians." I just wanted to know some other thoughts.
thats what ive been thinkin im christian but ive got some questions about alot of so called christian things. one is why the heck do we have denominations? all they do is seperate the church. why do we preach about some stuff and not even do them. thats just some of them
hippie....great question homie. it's basic human nature to try to control things...interpret things in your own way. don't get all confused by different denominations, and just focus on Christ and His teachings...period. feel me?
yeah thanks i mean im from a faith bible church that i think has baptist ties but im a year away from high school and am looking into colleges and some are non denomational and my parents think that is bad but i think it is better than having a denomination. because it really doesnt turn away people. i mena in the bible they just had the church no denominations. it was just ordinary people following christ our lord. i just dont get some things i hope the older i get the more i understand but who knows. all i can do is pray and read the bible. and yes i am feeling you peace and prayers
i hear you on this man. it's always bugged me how it splits believers up by the smallest things. we've been learning a little about this in history and people would make a new denomination over something like if the bread in communion really had christ's spiritual body in it. and now if you look at it, so many of these differences have been watered down it's like they don't exist anymore in some places. i just wish there was a happy medium that taught exact teaching from the bible.
yeah i know. like not a church but like a bible teaching building type thing. that way its set apart from religion. its sad that satan is using the church to destroy itself
I've been thinking about this thread for a month. It's something I believe, too, that pure Christianity isn't a religion. People talk a lot about this or that being the oldest religion; like that makes it more valid or something. But when you get down to it, all the way back to "The Garden" - it was always about a personal Relationship with God, not Religion.
Jesus came here and died for us because we just can't get back there ourselves. We can't do it with brownie points, or rituals or karma or good deeds, cause our fall from that relationship is bone-deep, soul-deep. We can't clean off the mud of our sins because our own hands are muddy! Only Jesus can clean up our souls so we can have that loving, intimate relationship with our Father that we crave. There's no religious practice on earth that can substitute for even a moment in eternity, walking and talking face-to-face with our Lord.
And it seems to me that church-or "the body of Christ"- is really about relationships too; not attendance records and committees and buildings. All that stuff is just a framework to encourage each other in the journey to know Him better. That's why I like this site so much.
I don't refer to true Christianity as religion. The most important aspect of being a Christian is to know Christ and have Him know you. Therefore, the relationship is turely the most important part.
